We were introduced to Teresa at a dog party, who had happen to have brought along a doe-eyed grey fluffy mini poodle. We found out Lucy was a survivor of the 2009 Sunberg puppy mills. Once I got Lucy in my arms, though, we were inseparable. When we got her home most people decided she was a lost cause. She was overly skittish and--no offense to her--was a bit of a basketcase (understandably)! But, almost three years later with a lot of love from SPOT and a great home she is going stronger than ever! Everyone comments on how much she has changed from a timid shaky poodle to an all out rambunctious animal! People who claim that they aren't a "tiny dog person" has Lucy in their lap within five minutes of meeting her. She's a real gem. Thank you so much to SPOT for Lucy. She has become more than just a pet and is an amazing addition to our family.

To Joan

Derek and I adopted Deekan in september of 2008. He is very funny because he likes carrots and loves his field and backyard.Hopefuly S.P.O.T will be successful as always and keep " Saving pets one at a time".

Thor the Great

We adopted Thor this summer to add to our 4-legged family. Bentley is doing well. He appears to love his new home. I think he spends most of the day watching the birds in the feeder, or dreaming about it.
He starting to learn my schedule and is watching for me to come home and is waiting
We made our 1st trip last weekend to the pet store. He still thinks when he loaded in the car he going to a new home or the vet. I am sure after a few more trips he will grow to love it. Warrick is a Chocolate Labrador/American Pit Bull mix which gives him good energy and just a wonderful temperament. About the only thing which upsets my best friend is being separated from his pack - he's just a very social guy.
Warrick loves daily walks either on the leash or on the treadmill (yes, really!) but his favorite thing in the world is a plain, green tennis ball. He doesn't care if you're throwing the ball hundreds of feet with a Chuck-It or just tossing it into the air to catch, that tennis ball is the best thing in the world, and life is just about the greatest if one of his 20 or so tennis balls is nearby.
Warrick loves everyone and I've only had him react to a very stressed and anxious dog once. Mostly, Warrick just wishes to find someone to run and play with. Our existing senior dog, Kujo is simply too old to play with a year old youngster, so just a few months ago, we adopted a young APT we named Zoey. Warrick was so gentle and caring while Zoey was integrating into the home. It was amazing to see the care he would use with her when teaching her the art of the tug-rope or chase. She's bigger than the pictures show now, so the play is a little less careful, but they have become best friends. I attribute this mostly to my wonderful boy Warrick.
I want to thank SPOT for the great work they are doing, especially with the bully breeds. Warrick, Zoey and Kujo are all amazing representatives of the Pit Bull community, and each was a rescue! How cool is that? If it were not for SPOT and other great rescue organizations, our family would not have great furry friends to share our lives with.
Sincerely,
John Ferreira and family

To my foster mom Jen

Just wanted to type you a quick note and say thanks for rescuing me from an unknown life and feeding me for a few weeks until I was old enough to eat on my own. You named me Junior, but my my mom and dad call me Jimmy. They adopted me July 3, 2010. They thought I was lonely while they went away to work so they got me a little brother, Joey. It took us a little while to figure out who the top "dog" was in the house but now we get along great! I have trained my parents very well and they now do everything I ask them to. I even got a cat door installed to my secure outdoor deck so I no longer have to wait for them to open the door. My mom makes cat beds for the Seattle Humane Society and my brother and I have stolen our fair share before she can get them to the car. We have beds EVERYWHERE in the house so anytime we feel like taking a nap there is one close by. Thought you would like to know how well I am doing and that I am loved and pampered. (I like my dad the best, we
spend hours in the garage together, I roll on the cool ground and he stops what he is doing to give me belly rubs.)
Much Love Jimmy (Junior)

Enzo

We adopted Obie, now Enzo, almost three months ago, and everyday we thank our good fortune that we got to the adoption event right when it started! We were the first ones to see him that day, and when we took him into the nearby field for a walk, he rolled right over for some belly scratching and loving. We were hooked!
Enzo is an amazing dog: loving, handsome, smart, extremely good natured and playful, and a total goofball. He is a constant source of amusement, watching him play and navigate new experiences. We took him to the Oregon Coast and he had a blast chasing a frisbee and playing in the breakers! He was aces in his obedience class, I actually think he got bored! He knows sit, down, stay/wait, come, turn, back up, up, off, big hug, drop it (sort of), and leave it. We're planning on enrolling him in backyard sports/agility this fall which I think he will love.
Thank you so much for bringing Enzo into our lives, we are so grateful! And thank you for all the work you are doing to find these dogs a caring home and family.

"Pinky"

Hello,
I adopted "Pinky" who was known as "Sly" in September 2001. She has always been a character - tuxedo cats frequently are...but let me tell you how she has changed and been in my life recently.
My husband has been diagnosed with cancer and we have been going through amazingly difficult times. Pinky has been my shadow, my constant companion, she goes where I go...when I am reading in bed, she puts her two front paws on my chest to go to sleep. She has been an "angel" cat and so, so comforting and I love her to pieces. I have had her 10 years and I just want everyone who adopts to know that the love these pets have for you and the love you have for them just keeps on growing! I love S.P.O.T. and I love these sweet animals that are just looking for a forever home!
File #0 001.JPG exceeds the maximum file size. He is getting up there in years and we decided to add another dog to the family to hopefully perk Cody up a little and to help us keep active too because as Cody is slowing down, we are too.
Enter Reo. Reo has been with us a week and he is already very much a part of the family. He was pretty reluctant to get in the car the day we picked him up but since then he has quickly bonded with all of the family members (even the cat). He is learning good trail manners and, along with Cody, turns the heads of people we meet. He looks forward to his walks and hikes and is trying to decide what to think about swimming. As long as I am in the water with him, he is all for it. He is quickly becoming another best dog ever.

Tuffy & his mama

Need I say more?

Raven's story

Dear SPOT,
It's been a little more than a year now since my parents found me at the Mount Vernon PETCO and brought me home. I wanted to send you a note to say thanks for giving me the chance to live such a charmed life with my new family.
When you rescued me, I was an unwed teenage mother known as "Dixie" living with lots of other cats in a home out in the county somewhere. You took me to your shelter, cleaned me up and renamed me "Raven."
My new parents met me on March 13, 2010. They weren't really looking for a cat, and I wasn't feeling super sociable. My mom told me that when she first saw me, I was laying in my litter box swatting at the cats in the cages next to me. She liked my spunk, and my dad liked how I purred when he picked me up. It must have been fate, because the next thing I knew, I walked out of my cardboard kitty box into my new home.
The first few weeks were interesting. My two doggy siblings weren't quite prepared for a cat to take over their house. Fortunately, they learned that I wasn't a squeaky toy – and I learned that they're actually pretty fun to spend time with (when they're not trying to sniff my butt, that is).
My new house is great. My parents are growing me catnip in the backyard, and I have tons of fun rattly toys to swat around in the house. I have lots of windows to sit in and two cuddly fleece beds to curl up in. When I get bored, I like to attack the big stuffed dog toys – and sometimes the dogs. I like to chase them up and down the stairs and around the house. I've even found new foods to enjoy – like cantaloupe, yellow pepper and tortilla chips.
When I'm not pestering my parents to try new foods, I have a pretty easy life. In the mornings, I make sure to jump on the bed to wake up my mom so she isn't late for work. Then I head downstairs to make sure she feeds my doggy brother and sister. She gives me a couple kibbles so I don't steal the dogs' food when they're not looking. I greet my dad when he gets home, then spend most of my day napping, either in my bed or with my dad in his bed. He works at night, so I have an excuse to spend most of the day sleeping. Of course, I make sure that I wake him up in time for work, too.
When my mom gets home from work, my brother and sister and I greet her at the door. We all get lots of hugs, and then we have dinner together. At night, after mom goes to sleep, I play with my toys for a while until I get tired – then I head upstairs to snuggle in my parents' bed.
I don't know what my life would have been like if you hadn't rescued me, but I can't imagine what life would be like without my great family. We just were there to look at getting Cooper some more toys, when there was bud, this beautiful dog, Cooper who was kind of quiet walked right up to his crate sat down and started barking, totally out of his character. I told my husband, oh Cooper picked his brother, well we decided to leave and talk about it, so we went to costco and then decided that if he was still there when we went back we would get him, well, there he was.
Bud, is a sweet, loving, funny, full of life dog. Cooper and Bud truely are best friends. He does so good on walks, he still pulls some but we are working on that, he has never shown any dog or human aggression at all, the day that we brought him home cooper and him were eating out of their own bowls. It did take him a bit of time to settle in but, he knows now that we are his people and this is his home. He now sits by the door before we take him out, waits in the car with the back open until we tell him ok. He is responding to sit, stay and come really well, he loves his treats which makes it easy to train him. He is crated during the day while we are at work, but gets a lunch break, I get to come home during lunch and let them out for a little run, then they have rome of the house when are home, we all go on hikes and walks everyday.
He really has added so much to our life and we are so happy to have him. I attached some recent pictures of bud and his brother cooper.
Thanks so much
Melissa & Bart Tracy
File #0 mel1 006.JPG exceeds the maximum file size. While we were working with him that day, we realized that Mr. Deke just didn't suite him so my son sat on the floor and started saying different german town names and low and behold, Mr. Deke went right to him when he said the name Bergen.
We are so pleased with Bergen in how smart he is and quickly picking up commands and how he has such great house manners. While we were a little concerned introducing him (since he is so much puppy still) to our almost 15 year old Husky but they get along wonderfully and she actually enjoys having him with her.
He is doing much better on leash now and goes for a walk twice daily. We have enrolled him in obedience training classes and have no doubt he'll pick up the commands quickly. Although we have been trying to keep him off the bed, he is very attached to our son and actually goes to bed with him and once our son is asleep, he jumps down and sleeps on the floor in the hallway just outside his door.
Thank you again SPOT for introducing him to us and allowing us to adopt him! We absolutely LOVE him!!

"Tia" Richardson

I just want to thank SPOT for giving us the gift of our new family member Tia.
She is close to all of us but especially to our 5 year old. Her and our 21 month old toddler Connor are inseparable and can normally be found either playing around the house or cuddling together on the couch. At 4 months now she knows her basics of sit, lay down, stay, out of the kitchen (lol!), no jumping, fetch, is completely potty trained and more! She's great with all people and dogs and will be getting into her puppy training classes soon for more socialization. I can confidently say she is our Pit Bull Ambassadog as everyone she meets loves her, and she loves them. And boy does she have the looks! She's overall just a perfect dog: healthy, beautiful and smart. In early 2003 I adopted my cat, Dolan, as a kitten from your organization. From his first day, he was a spoiled and pampered housecat. I had made him a nice basket with a heat lamp to keep him warm and he cried until I let him sleep on my chest. He never slept away from me if he could help it. He went through 2 boyfriends, and was with me when I married my husband. He loved my husband as much as myself from the time we moved in together. He's a world traveler, having been back and forth from Germany twice. Sadly, he succumbed to liver failure earlier today. Despite mine and my husband's grief, we want you to know that we would not have had the love and affection of our sweet baby without your organization. If you are interested in having a picture of one of the cats who you gave a chance. Thank you again for your organization and what you do, which gave us so much. Sincerely, Rachel and Chip Boyce

Gus

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to pass along an update. Gus is doing really well and is growing fast. Last week we took him into the Vet for a wellness check up and he is already 4 lbs! We had his ears cleaned as well. Everyone at the Vet's wishes all of the kittens that they have to deal with were like Gus. They all wanted to keep him.
Gus really likes our Corgi Macy. He is always trying to be around her. Macy was really good buds with our old cat and must remember that because she is really good around Gus.
During Thanksgiving we had lots of people around the house and Gus was not skittish at all. He was really sociable and wanted to be around everyone. Since that time, he has grown quite a bit both physically and mentally. He's a terrific little guy who's very intelligent. He learns new commands and tasks quickly. Because he is 50/50 Chocolate Labrador and American Pit Bull Terrier, he has high energy and is always ready to go (In the picture with the couch, you see him taking a nap with his friend Kujo, a senior American Staffordshire Terrier and dad after a mid-day run on the treadmill). Warrick is still just a baby, but it is amazing how well he is able to focus on a task such as fetch with dad in the park off leash! He absolutely loves people and any other animal he meets.
We are so grateful that organizations like SPOT exist. Every dog deserves a chance, a good home, and love. We tried giving him a family name when we brought him home and he took to it quickly.
Lewis has had a great summer. We get out every day for 2-3 walks around the neighborhood. We often take a drive to one of the local parks for a change of scenery (and because he enjoys sticking his head out the truck window). His favorite walk is a 3-mile hike around Lake Padden, where there's also a dog park for small dogs. He's very outdoorsy. He's been on two camping trips and discovered that he loves not only the woods, but beaches as well, especially when he gets to tear down a sandy stretch at full speed.
At home he likes to play fetch with tiny tennis balls and show his squeaky plush toys who's boss. He leaves the cats alone until they make the mistake of running past him, and then the game is on. He spends a lot of time sitting on the back of the couch and surveying his domain from the living room window. He also likes doing this from our porch. I always know when the deer are wandering past because Lew has a special bark just for them. He spends time with us in the garden and loves sitting with Brian on the patio while he's grilling.
Lewis absolutely loves people but still has a hard time with other dogs in certain situations. He gets protective and barks excessively when leashed or confronted with another dog when he doesn't want to be. He does just fine at the dog park, though, and has begun to get along quite well with the other dogs in our family, as you can see in one of the photos I've attached.
We're so thankful to have found Lew. He's adorable and has a great personality. The fact that he fits in well with our family and lifestyle is just a bonus. We were very lucky. Thank you for fostering him and helping to give this little guy another chance!
Renee

Basil the "Oversized Dachshund"

It's been almost a year since Basil joined our family. We had lost our long time family member, Tzeitel, a 14 year old terrier mix (also a rescue dog), just the week before, and with my husband deploying with the Navy at the end of the month, we knew the kids (who had never known life without a dog) would have an even more difficult time. We immediately started perusing the web for adoption options. While there was no picture posted yet of Basil, his description intrigued us. When we contacted SPOT, we were told there would be an adoption fair in Mount Vernon that weekend. Basil was impossible to resist, despite his mange patch back by his tail. He was 35-40 lbs. of hound, with big fat paws and a totally endearing personality. We took him home and quickly learned there was more to this 5-ish year old dog; he was already well-trained, too! For the first few months, as we tried to teach him several commands, we would find that he already knew most of what we thought we would te
ach him. Roll over, wait, heel, sit, shake, down . . . and the kids taught him quiet and speak. Our vet decided that he is not really a dachshund after all; more likely a basset-coon hound mix. He is all nose and all heart - playful but gentle, and silly. One family member has described him as Looney Toons character - a perfect description! We feel so lucky to have added him to our family. Thanks for the wonderful care you provided him with, S.P.O.T., while he waited for his forever home with us!
File #0 Meg's Easter weekend 037.JPG exceeds the maximum file size. Our friends now call him "Sir Charles" as he has the run of our house. He has settled into our family very well. Travelling is still a struggle, however, he is learning the ropes. The final addition to our family was Wolfie, a handsome white siamese/maine coon that was rescued from a hoarder property. Spot socialized him with amazing success! Having experienced our own foster cases with kittens and cats from similar backgrounds through the seattle animal shelter we would have never guessed Wolfie's past- he was immediately at home and is the most social and unabashed feline in our life!
We are constantly entertained by his more dog-like than cat personality. He rushes to greet us at the door every time we get home and loves to welcome each morning by bounding around the house with a chorus of little chirping meows. He has taken to carrying toys around in his mouth and even comes when we call him by name! His new siblings Holly & Karu learn to love him a little more everyday though he loved them immediately from the start.
Thank you so much for helping connect us with Wolfie, and for taking such amazing care of him before he came to our home! She's doing well-- she's getting a good walk in most days (and lets us know of her displeasure on the days that we don't walk) and has claimed the bottom level of my son's bunk bed as her own. :-) She got a clean bill of health from our vet and seems to be adjusting to her new home. We gave her a bath, and that helped considerably with the shedding. She still whines and sleeps a lot, but is happy as a clam when we are out exploring the neighborhood, and we've even gotten her to fetch a ball a few times. Thanks again for letting her come home with us. We feel very lucky to have her. We already had two well trained schnauzers but we opened our doors and our hearts to those puppies in need. As love would have it, my two schnauzers chose a miniature poodle to be their little sister. Mitzi nowhas found her "Fur-ever" home here. They have taught her love, warm beds and long walks off leash are what every dog deserves. She sits on the couch like a human and eats ice cubes like they are treats. We laugh a lot at her, she is quite the entertainer! She had a little bit of a rough start but is now thriving as a 75 pound lap dog. She loves her big brother Freddie (brown doggie in picture). Love Her SOOOOO Much! We call him Spooky or Mr. Spooks as he has a tendancy to jump at his own shadow and Dexter had the nickname Dude before Spooky joined us. He is getting along great with all of the other cats and is constantly playing with Gizmo. At first Gizzy did not know what to make of the idea that Spooky would play back as all the other cats either ignore him or snarl at him when he would pounce on them. Spooky jumped right in though and they chase each other all over the house. Clearly they are having tons of fun. Spooks loves to come up for his nightly loving when we head to bed. Neither my husband nor I can go to sleep until we have given him the proper amount of petting. He also is very intrigued by the snakes, especially the big one, Doorknob. Whenever Doorknob is roaming his tank Spooks is right there looking very perplexed. Occasionally he reaches a paw out to the tank to see if he can touch the snake and the glass adds to the befuddlement. The perplexed look on his face is classic as his slight crosseyes emphasizes it more than the same look on the other cats. Just thought you would like to know he is one happy cat and has adjusted quickly to our little zoo here.

Kristina Colburn

HANNAH

I HAD BEEN WANTING TO ADOPT A DOG FOR QUITE ALONG TIME, TO GIVE OUR DOG HARLEY
A FRIEND. Maggie had a rough go at first with some medical issues and food issues, but she has come through to be the best little ball of love. Maggie loves to go for walks and loves to swim, she takes her sister's tennis ball when Abby isnt looking, and loves the snow. They would be so heartbroken if Tinsel went away.
So, we made if offical yesterday. We just love her dearly, even with her quirks.

Thank you SPOT for giving the community so much happiness and joy through the animals you provide a second (or third) chance to. (We are Tinsel's third and final home.)

Puppy Mill Pups

We adopted Wacko and Mortimer from the puppy mill last year. He has a very healthy appetite and uses is kitty box regularly.

It is very hard going to work and leaving him because I could play with him and pet him all day. He is my sidekick! When my previous kitty passed away, I thought that I would never get out out my depression. But when Monkey came along, the depression dissipated.

I commend you on how well you fostered Monkey. He is very smart, well behaved, knows his boundaries and is very clean! Thank you for all the love and time you gave to Monkey. I promise you that he will have a very happy, long life - never to be abused nor re-homed. He deserves the best of everything for bringing joy and happiness into my life again.

Ann Stryker
